President Bola Tinubu has commended Nigerians for their ingenuity and perseverance, highlighting these qualities during a showcase of contemporary Nigerian art in London.
Speaking at a reception hosted at the Tate Modern as part of his official visit to the United Kingdom, Tinubu said the exhibition underscored how Nigerians continue to shape and redefine their identity through artistic expression. The event formed one of the key engagements during his state visit.
In a statement issued on Friday, March 20, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the exhibition’s theme as symbolic of a broader cultural awakening.
“The theme of the exhibition, Nigeria’s modernism, is more than just a title for an art show. It is a testament to revolution.
“It tells the story of a generation of Nigerian giants, who in the middle of the 20th century refused to be despised but chose to define themselves,” the President said.
Tinubu further noted that Nigerian artists have consistently produced timeless works by fusing indigenous traditions with modern artistic techniques.
