President Bola Tinubu has appointed Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, to lead a special reconciliation committee aimed at ending the internal crisis in the Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The move is part of efforts to unite the party ahead of future political contests.
This was made known in a statement on Sunday, August 10, by Musa Krishi, media adviser to Abbas, who said that the group held its inaugural meeting in Abuja on July 31.
“After a thorough discussion on the roots of the crisis, which trace back to the APC’s 2015 primaries in the state, the committee resolved to embark on a fact-finding mission to engage relevant stakeholders,” Krishi explained.

The committee, which boasts a lineup of key political figures, includes Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, former House Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate) Abdullahi Gumel, and Abbas’ Chief of Staff, Jake Dan-Azumi.
Some other stakeholders include prominent Bauchi politicians such as former governors Mohammed Abubakar and Isa Yuguda, Minister of Health Ali Pate, as well as Abdulmalik Mahmood, Abubakar Maikafi, Tijjani Ali, Yahaya Miya, Ibrahim Hassan, and Sanusi Ileli.
Abbas noted that the committee has one month to conclude its work and present a comprehensive report to President Tinubu.
