President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, as the Director of Public Prosecutions in the Federal Ministry of Justice.
A letter dated December 23 and signed by Omolabake Mafe on behalf of the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission confirmed that Oyedepo’s transfer from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the mainstream Federal Civil Service was made in the public interest.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye, Oyedepo will succeed Abubakar Babadoko, who is due to retire on December 31, 2025, after completing the mandatory eight-year tenure as a director.
The statement added that Oyedepo, a 2007 Law graduate from the University of Ilorin and a 2008 Law School alumnus, is expected to use his expertise to reduce reliance on external counsel for critical prosecutions and to ensure greater coherence and consistency in the Federal Government’s legal strategies.

He also served as the Head of the Monitoring Unit and was a member of the legal team in the landmark Federal Government case, Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) vs The Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Oyedepo was recognised for his contributions at the EFCC, receiving the Outstanding Staff of the Year award in 2014 and the Best Financial Crimes Prosecutor award in 2019.
