President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation, effective March 7, 2025—the same day incumbent Oluwatoyin Madehin retires.
According to a press release from the State House on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, issued by Special Adviser to the President, Bayo Onanuga, Ogunjimi’s appointment follows a “rigorous selection process” that included a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews with Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service.
Ogunjimi, 57, who was first named as Madehin’s successor last December, was selected through a competitive and merit-based process.
The statement emphasised that the procedure “underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions.”

A graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, Ogunjimi also holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.
He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment, urging him to serve with high standards.
“I congratulate you on your appointment and urge you to discharge your duties in the service of Nigeria with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to Nigeria’s service,” Tinubu said.
