Tinubu back in Nigeria eight days to inauguration

President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, returned to Nigeria barely eight days to his inauguration as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of The Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Tinubu returned home after spending a week in Europe.

There had been speculations about his latest trip abroad as some media reports claimed that he was battling an undisclosed ailment.

But his spokesman, Tunde Rahman, had said the President-Elect went abroad to have some rest ahead of his inauguration on May 29.

During his sojourn abroad, Tinubu met with the Presidential Candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi.

The meeting had stirred controversy and tension as some Kano APC chieftains threatened to withdraw support for Tinubu if he implements one of the decisions arrived at in France.

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, had also expressed reservations over the meeting as he was heard lamenting in a leaked audio conversation.

Ganduje was, however, among the dignitaries who went to the Abuja airport to welcome the President-elect back home.

Also among those who welcomed Tinubu were the Senate President Ahmad Lawan; Vice-President-elect Kashim Shettima, and GodswillAkpabio, anointed candidate for president of the 10th Senate.

Tinubu returned amid the storm generated by the endorsement of some lawmakers as leaders of the 10th National Assembly.

During a protest by aggrieved aspirants, National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu had said the National Assembly leadership list would be reviewed, but the action would not be taken in Tinubu’s absence.
