President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to uphold calm, civility, and integrity as voters prepare for elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Rivers, and Kano states on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
In a statement issued on Friday, February 20, 2026, Tinubu emphasized that a thriving democracy depends on tolerance, respect, and orderly conduct, appealing to voters to exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.
The President called on political parties, candidates, and their supporters to refrain from provocative statements, acts of violence, or any conduct that could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
He also reminded security agencies of their duty to protect lives and property while remaining impartial in the conduct of the elections.

Highlighting the importance of institutional integrity, Tinubu urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure efficient voter accreditation, smooth polling, accurate collation, and timely electronic transmission of results, in accordance with the recently enacted Electoral Act 2026, which introduces critical reforms including the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
The elections cover all six area councils in the FCT, bye-elections in Rivers State constituencies Ahoada East II and Khana II, and bye-elections in Kano State constituencies Kano Municipal and Ungogo, aimed at filling legislative vacancies caused by deaths and resignations.
To safeguard the polls, authorities have imposed movement restrictions in the FCT from 8:00 p.m. Friday to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, ensuring security and facilitating voter participation.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the elections would reflect the genuine will of the people and strengthen the foundations of Nigeria’s democracy, reinforcing the principle that credible elections are central to national stability and progress.
