Tinubu Congratulates Pope Leo XIV, Emphasizes Strong Nigeria-Vatican Relations

President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness Leo XIV following his election as the new Bishop of Rome and the global head of the Roman Catholic Church.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via X (formerly Twitter), President Tinubu commended the Conclave for selecting Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost as the 267th Pope. He described the new pontiff’s message of faith and hope as one that resonates globally, inspiring optimism for a more peaceful world.

The President also acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the Holy See, emphasizing the Catholic Church’s significant contributions to peacebuilding, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and technological advancement in the country.

According to the statement, Tinubu praised the church’s unwavering commitment to promoting love, humanity, and charity, particularly towards the underprivileged, adding that Pope Leo XIV’s papacy marks a new chapter in furthering these values.

Tinubu expressed hopes that the new Pope would be granted good health and divine wisdom to effectively spread his message of peace and love to the world.
