Tinubu Departs Brazil for Abuja After State Visit

President Bola Tinubu has concluded his state visit to Brazil and is on his way back to Abuja after three days of high-level engagements with Brazilian leaders.

His aircraft took off from the Air Force Base of Brasília International Airport at exactly 12:57 pm local time on Wednesday, August 27.

At the departure ceremony were Brazil’s Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, Amb. Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, and the country’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete.

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, joined other senior officials at the airport as Tinubu was given a guard of honour led by Col. Cel Nicolas.

The President had arrived in the Brazilian capital on Monday, August 25, to a formal military reception before going into a closed-door meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Both leaders later witnessed the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding designed to open new areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The agreements cover aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, as well as agriculture — sectors Tinubu described as central to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.

While in Brasília, the President also met with the Director-General of Brazil’s Securities and Exchange Commission and the Board of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc.

He commended the strength of Nigeria’s financial market, describing it as “a clear sign of investor confidence” in the reforms of his government.

Beyond official meetings, Tinubu used the visit to explore new partnerships in trade, education, and innovation. He also interacted with Nigerians living in Brazil, encouraging them to support efforts at building the country.
