Tinubu Ends Rivers Emergency, Orders Governor, Assembly to Resume Duties

President Bola Tinubu has officially lifted the State of Emergency earlier declared in Rivers State, directing Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly to resume work on Thursday, September 18.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the President said peace and order had returned to the oil-rich state, making it possible to end the emergency measures.

“It therefore gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers State of Nigeria shall end with effect from midnight today. The Governor, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, the deputy governor, Her Excellency Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the speaker, Martins Amaewhule, will resume work in their offices from 18 September 2025,” the statement read in part.

The development marks a turning point in the political crisis that had rocked Rivers State for months, culminating in the drastic intervention by the federal government.

Details of the resumption and further directives from the presidency are expected in the coming days.
