President Bola Tinubu has extended his working vacation in Europe by a few days and is expected to return to Nigeria at the weekend, the Presidency announced on Monday.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for London, where he commenced the vacation before proceeding to Paris, France. During his stay in the French capital, the President held meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré.
According to Onanuga, the President has remained in contact with developments in Nigeria and continued to direct the affairs of government despite his absence from the country.
Among the matters Tinubu has addressed was the death of 37 suspected illegal miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Minna, Niger State.
The President ordered a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, including the conditions under which the detainees were held and the medical attention provided to them.

The Federal Government subsequently constituted an independent 10-member committee to investigate the incident, while 21 NSCDC officers were suspended in connection with the deaths.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima, who had represented Tinubu at some official engagements during the President’s absence, departed Abuja on September 20 for New York to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Shettima is expected to represent Tinubu at the UNGA and deliver Nigeria’s national statement.
The Presidency said Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, would continue to represent the President at official functions where necessary.
Tinubu is now expected to return to Nigeria at the weekend following the extension of his working vacation.
