Tinubu Honours Late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, Renames Bauchi Medical University

President Bola Tinubu has renamed the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, Bauchi State, in honour of the late renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.

The President made the announcement on Saturday during a condolence visit to the cleric’s family at his country home in Bauchi.

“From today onward, I announce this change of name to immortalise him. The Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, Bauchi State, will from today be known as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University. May God bless his memory,” Tinubu said.

Describing Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s death as a “great national loss,” the President noted that the cleric’s life was marked by humility, selfless service, and dedication to the propagation of Islam and peace. He prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the late scholar and for his admission into Jannatul Firdaus.

Tinubu also prayed for strength for the cleric’s family, the government, and the people of Bauchi State, urging Nigerians to continue to pray for peace and unity across the country.

On behalf of the family, Sheikh Ibrahim Usman Bauchi, the eldest son of the late cleric, expressed gratitude to the President for the condolence visit, prayers, and the honour bestowed on their father. He also thanked Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed for his continued support of the family.

Governor Mohammed commended the President for recognising Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s enduring legacy, describing the gesture as a significant honour for both the family and the state.

President Tinubu was received at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, Bauchi, by Governor Mohammed, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Senator Shehu Buba of Bauchi South. He was also accompanied by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, and Seyi Tinubu, among other officials.

The condolence visit was part of the President’s engagements to commiserate with the family and followers of the late Islamic scholar, whose contributions to Islamic scholarship spanned decades across Nigeria and beyond.
