Tinubu Names Oluyede New CDS, Reshuffles Service Chiefs

President Bola Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in Nigeria’s military leadership, appointing General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff to replace General Christopher Musa.

The President also named Major-General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshall S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.

Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, will retain his position.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, on Friday, October 24.

Dare said the appointments were part of Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s national security framework.

“The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expresses most profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” the statement read.

It added, “The President charges the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”

According to the statement, all appointments take immediate effect.
