President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to screen and confirm the newly appointed service chiefs overseeing Nigeria’s military and intelligence services.
The President’s request was conveyed in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to the letter, the nominees are:
General Olufemi Oluyede — Chief of Defence Staff
Major-General Waheedi Shaibu — Chief of Army Staff
Rear Admiral Idi Abbas — Chief of Naval Staff
Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke — Chief of Air Staff
Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye — Chief of Defence Intelligence
Tinubu urged the upper chamber to expedite the screening and confirmation process to enable the new security chiefs to fully assume their responsibilities amid Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.

Following the reading of the letter, Senate President Akpabio referred the nominees to the Committee of the Whole for screening and confirmation, scheduled to take place next week.
The development comes barely 24 hours after President Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with the appointees at the Presidential Villa, Abuja — a session reportedly centered on national security strategy and inter-agency coordination.
The appointments mark the latest phase of the President’s ongoing effort to reshape Nigeria’s defence leadership and strengthen the nation’s response to terrorism, banditry, and other internal security threats.
