Tiwa Savage Reflects on Struggles and ‘Darkness’ in Music Industry

Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has opened up about the challenges she faced in releasing her latest album, describing the music industry as “filled with darkness.”

During a livestream with fans, Savage addressed critics who questioned her album’s potential because it lacked high-profile features or club-ready hits.

She said her faith and support system have kept her grounded as she pursued music true to her vision.

“My Alpha and Omega, this industry is filled with so much darkness. I thank God I’ve kept my eyes on Him and haven’t fallen,” she said.

“When I shared the tracklist, many said, ‘She doesn’t have this artist, she doesn’t have that big name.’ They assumed without hearing the music that it wouldn’t succeed. But all I have is all I have and that’s enough for me and the people willing to work with me.”

Savage explained the album took over two years to create and faced skepticism for its introspective, vulnerable tracks.

“People just want bangers, club records. You don’t have any? They said it won’t work, that nobody would stream it. But here it is, and I’m grateful it’s finally out,” she added.

Despite the hurdles, the singer affirmed her commitment to producing music with depth and meaning.

“I just need the right fans, not millions. I have the right ones, and that’s enough,” she said.
