Travelers using Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) on Monday faced severe delays after a protest by visually impaired demonstrators brought access roads to a standstill.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) issued an urgent travel advisory, warning passengers to expect heavy traffic and to check their flight schedules before heading to the airport.
FAAN urged commuters to seek alternative routes and monitor traffic reports to avoid missing flights.
The disruption began late Monday morning when members of the Farmcraft Centre for the Blind gathered near the airport to protest the closure of their school, which they say has been shut for more than two years.
“Our school has been shut for over two years despite repeated appeals to the government,” a spokesperson for the group said. “Many of us have been left with no choice but to beg on the streets.”

The demonstrators accuse authorities of neglecting their educational needs, leaving hundreds of visually impaired people without access to learning opportunities.
By midday, major entry points to MMA’s domestic terminal were clogged, forcing some passengers to abandon vehicles and walk long distances to make their flights.
FAAN apologized for the inconvenience, thanking passengers for their patience and urging them to “travel safely and stay informed.”
The protest remained ongoing into the afternoon, with no immediate word from government officials on whether the demonstrators’ demands would be addressed.
