In a deeply distressing turn of events, the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) is grappling with another student fatality, as Adaeze, a 200-level Accounting undergraduate, was discovered lifeless in her off-campus apartment in Aluu.
The circumstances surrounding Adaeze’s demise remain shrouded in mystery, with authorities unable to ascertain the cause of death as of the time of this report on Monday.
This heartbreaking incident has unfolded just a mere two weeks after the shocking discovery of the decomposing remains of Justina Otuene, a 300-level Biochemistry student allegedly killed by her ex-lover, Damian Okoligwe, in his residence along NTA Road, Ozuoba, Obio/Akpor LGA. Okoligwe, a 400-level Petrochemical Engineering student at UNIPORT, is currently in police custody.
UNIPORT’s Dean of Student Affairs, Chima Wokocha, revealed that Adaeze’s lifeless body was brought to the Chief Lulu-Brigss Health Centre by concerned neighbors who reside near her lodge.
She was not in a university hostel at the time of her passing, but in her Aluu off-campus residence.
University management, accompanied by law enforcement, visited the scene of the incident, and the parents of the deceased student have been notified.
Wokocha stated, “Her body was brought to the Chief Lulu-Brigss Health Centre by people who live around her in her lodge. She didn’t die in the university hostel. She died in her off-campus residence in Aluu, and the scene of the crime was visited by the management of the university, including myself. The police were there with us also. We acknowledge the fact that she had taken a substance and passed out because there was a bottle of a substance that was found by her side. The parents have come there, and I think they are making arrangements to take the body.”
Efforts to obtain information from the state police command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, were ongoing at the time of this report on Monday, as she had promised to provide further details upon her arrival at the office.
