The trial of former Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, over allegations of misappropriating public funds is ongoing before Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin.
Ahmed, alongside his then Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Ademola Banu, is accused of conspiring to divert N5.78 billion earmarked for critical state projects, including payment of teachers’ salaries under the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), provision of basic infrastructure for primary and junior secondary schools, as well as security initiatives.
This is contained in a statement by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, shared on its Facebook page on Tuesday.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting the case, alleging that the funds were unlawfully diverted during Ahmed’s tenure as governor.
The court is expected to hear testimony from Alhaji Suleiman Oluwadare Ishola, the former Accountant General of Kwara State, who has been listed as one of the prosecution’s key witnesses.
