In a remarkable show of strength and precision, troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have dismantled bandits’ hideouts and seized a cache of arms and ammunition in Taraba State.
Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of the 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, revealed in a statement that under the command of Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the troops launched a bold offensive, engaging the bandits in an intense firefight. With their superior firepower and strategic acumen, the soldiers decisively routed the criminals, leaving them fleeing in chaos.
Dubbed OP GOLDEN PEACE, this operation was meticulously planned, following confidence-building patrols, clearance missions, and effective stakeholder engagements.
It commenced in earnest on the 28th of November, 2024, targeting the rugged terrains of Takum Local Government Area (LGA), particularly the infamous bandit and terrorist hideouts around Lijem High Ground.
“Troops cleared these areas and extended their presence along the power line near Vingiri and Vingir villages, reassuring and boosting the confidence of local residents,” the statement detailed.
The operation’s momentum intensified on the 29th and 30th of November, with missions zeroing in on Kufai Ahmadu, Jam, Hingir, Ukum, and Nbaume villages. A daring assault on the notorious terrorist camps of New Gboko and Che Adekpe, tied to the elusive criminal Liamdoo Douglas Adekpe, AKA Boujogh, marked a turning point.
During the mop-up phase, the soldiers dismantled several bandit camps, recovering a trove of weaponry, including 27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 1 AK-47 magazine, 1 handheld Baofeng radio, and 2 motorcycles.
To cement the safety of the region, the troops extended their force projection into Akume and Ananum areas of Donga LGA, reaffirming the brigade’s relentless commitment to securing Taraba State.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa commended the unwavering support of local communities and urged them to remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in defeating these threats.
“Together, we will ensure peace and security across Taraba State and beyond,” he assured with resolve.
This operation stands as a testament to the Nigerian Army’s dedication to protecting lives and restoring peace in the region.
