Troops Kill Eight Terrorists in Katsina, Recover Weapons

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade have killed eight terrorists along the Kurfi–Batsari Road in Katsina State, following a fierce gun battle on Wednesday.

According to a statement released on Thursday, June 19, in Abuja by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, the operation was carried out by soldiers attached to Operation Fasin Yamma at the Forward Operating Base in Kurfi.

Kangye stated that the troops “swiftly engaged the terrorists and thwarted their plans after a prolonged duel.”

He confirmed that five AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered from the scene.

“A soldier was, however, wounded in action and evacuated to 17 Brigade Medical Centre for treatment,” Kangye said.

He added, “The situation remains calm while troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remain high.

“The Defence Headquarters commends the bravery and professionalism of the troops involved in the operation.

“We reassure Nigerians of our continued efforts to ensure the safety and security of our citizens.”
