Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have repelled a terrorist attack along the Wasagu–Ayu Road in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, forcing the attackers to flee and abandon two motorcycles during a gun battle.
The development was disclosed on Saturday by North-West crisis reporter Bakatsine in a post shared on his verified X handle.
According to the report, the troops swiftly mobilised on Friday afternoon after receiving credible intelligence that suspected terrorists had mounted a roadblock along the Wasagu–Ayu Road.
On arrival, the soldiers reportedly engaged the armed assailants in a fierce exchange of gunfire, compelling them to retreat into the surrounding area while abandoning two motorcycles used during the attack.
Security sources said the troops immediately launched a pursuit operation along the terrorists’ escape route in an effort to neutralise the fleeing suspects or prevent them from regrouping.
However, the sources noted that no further contact was established with the fleeing terrorists during the pursuit.
The successful operation forms part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which has intensified intelligence-driven operations aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and restoring security across vulnerable communities in Kebbi State and the wider North-West region.
Military authorities have continued to sustain offensive operations against terrorist groups operating across the region as part of broader efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of movement and enhance the safety of residents.
