Troops operating under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have thwarted an attempt by armed terrorists to advance towards Ghandi community in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The military operation was carried out on Sunday, August 30, after security intelligence indicated that an armed group was moving towards the community.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, troops were immediately deployed to strategic locations around Ghandi Bridge to intercept the terrorists.
The statement said the soldiers engaged the group when they made contact, using superior firepower to force the terrorists to abandon their advance and retreat.
“Several insurgents sustained gunshot wounds and attempted to escape by jumping into the adjacent river,” the Army said.

Following the encounter, troops conducted a clearance and search operation at daybreak, recovering an AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, additional ammunition and personal belongings reportedly abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
The Army said the recovered weapons and other items had been secured, while troops continued search and mop-up operations across the area.
The ongoing operation, according to the military, is focused on tracking the fleeing terrorists and preventing further attacks on Ghandi and surrounding communities.
The development comes as troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA sustain operations against terrorist and other criminal elements threatening communities across Sokoto State.
