Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued six kidnapped civilians and recovered N800,000 allegedly taken from the victims by terrorists during separate operations in Katsina State.
The latest operations were conducted in Dandume and Kankara Local Government Areas as troops intensified offensive patrols aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and protecting communities and major routes across the state.
The Media Information Officer, Lt. Aliyu Danja made this known in a statement on Sunday.
In Dandume Local Government Area, troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call on August 22, 2026, reporting that terrorists had intercepted a vehicle and abducted six occupants along the Dandume–Sheme Road.
According to the statement, the troops brought superior firepower to bear, forcing the terrorists to abandon their captives and escape into the surrounding bushes.
The soldiers subsequently conducted an extensive search of the area and successfully rescued all six victims unharmed.
During the operation, the troops also recovered N800,000 reportedly taken from the victims by the terrorists.
The military said the recovered cash and vehicle were later handed back to the victims in the presence of the Divisional Police Officer, Dandume.
In a separate operation conducted on August 21, troops of Sector 2 encountered terrorists along the Maraban Kankara axis in Kankara Local Government Area.
It was gathered that the troops swiftly engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bushes.
The military recovered a motorcycle abandoned by the terrorists.
The latest operations form part of sustained military efforts to disrupt terrorist networks and deny criminal elements freedom of movement across Katsina and other parts of the North-West.
The Joint Task Force North West said troops would continue to maintain aggressive patrols, fighting operations and intelligence-driven interventions to protect lives and property and prevent terrorists from establishing safe havens.
The Theatre Command commended members of the public for their continued cooperation and urged residents to provide timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
It stressed that community support remains crucial to the success of ongoing operations against terrorism, kidnapping and other forms of criminality across the North-West.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its determination to sustain pressure on terrorist elements and ensure the safety of commuters, farmers and residents across its area of operations.
