Troops Seize Fertiliser, Drugs, Fabrics Meant for Terrorists in Yobe

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have intercepted a major consignment of supplies allegedly destined for terrorist groups operating in the North-East.

The interception, made under Operation Desert Sanity IV, followed credible intelligence and was carried out on September 16 along the Nguru–Gashua road in Yobe State, the theatre command said in a statement on Thursday.

According to counter-insurgency outlet Zagazola Makama, troops stopped a red 14-tyre trailer around 7:40 a.m. and moved it to a secure location for inspection.

By 9:00 p.m. the same day, the vehicle was found to be carrying 700 bags of NPK 20:10:10 fertiliser — a chemical often used in the production of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) — along with 27 cartons of assorted drugs and nine cartons of normal saline. The items were concealed beneath bales of fabric.

Military authorities said the consignment was headed for Niger Republic.

In a related development, troops on the same axis intercepted two Sharon vehicles and another trailer transporting bulk fabrics and several solar panels, believed to be intended for the production of uniforms and other logistics support for fighters.

“All drivers, motor boys, and the recovered items are currently in custody pending further investigation and the arrest of identified consignees and consignors,” the command said.

The military commended the troops for their efforts and urged residents to continue providing timely intelligence to block supply routes to insurgent groups.

It added that dismantling such logistics chains remains key to weakening terrorists’ capacity to sustain operations in the North-East.
