Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have uncovered a major cache of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on the vital Marte–Dikwa bridge in Borno State.
The Nigerian Army announced the discovery in a statement posted Friday, July 4, via its official X handle, @HQNigerianArmy, confirming that the explosives were detected during a targeted clearance operation by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams from both Marte and Dikwa Forward Operating Bases.
According to the army, “So far, a total of 56 fully prepared IEDs have been safely recovered from the location. Controlled procedures are currently underway to render the remaining devices safe for complete recovery and disposal.”

The army said the successful operation was a critical breakthrough, potentially averting a mass-casualty attack and disruption to movement across one of the region’s most strategic routes.
“This successful operation has prevented a potentially catastrophic attack and reaffirms the vigilance, expertise, and commitment of Nigerian troops in safeguarding key infrastructure and civilian lives within the North East theatre,” the statement read.
The discovery adds to recent gains made by security forces in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign across the North-East, where remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP continue to target civilians, military convoys, and infrastructure.
