Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has taken to social media to update fans on the team’s travel situation following delays in their return to Nigeria after the canceled Libya-Nigeria match.
Troost-Ekong revealed that the team’s plane was finally being fueled and they were expected to depart for Nigeria shortly.
In a tweet that highlighted both the frustrations and solidarity of the moment, Troost-Ekong expressed his gratitude to fans for their unwavering support during the chaotic situation.
“Power of social media. Apparently our plane is being fueled as we speak and we should be leaving to Nigeria shortly. Thanks for everyone’s support!” the defender posted, emphasizing how critical fan engagement has been during the ordeal.
In a follow-up statement, Troost-Ekong made it clear that Nigeria would never intentionally treat a visiting team in the same manner. He acknowledged that mistakes and delays can happen but stressed that such issues would never be deliberate.
“I REITERATE: We would NEVER treat a guest nation for a game in this way. Mistakes happen, delays happen. But never on purpose!” he added.
The Super Eagles, who were initially expected to return to Nigeria earlier, faced an unexpected delay amid complications with their flight.
Troost-Ekong’s comments have reassured fans that the situation is being resolved, but it also underscores the importance of fair treatment in international fixtures.
