Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has claimed his first piece of silverware with Al Ahli Doha after the Qatari side won the Challenge Cup in the Qatar-UAE Super Cup.
Al Ahli edged past UAE outfit Al Jazira 4-3 on penalties following a dramatic 1-1 draw in regulation time. The Doha-based club showed resilience to force the match into a shootout, where they held their nerve to secure victory and the title.
Al Jazira had taken the lead and appeared on course for the trophy before Al Ahli mounted a late comeback. Former Germany international Julian Draxler scored a crucial equaliser in the closing moments of the game to keep Al Ahli alive and send the contest to penalties.
In the shootout, Al Ahli converted four of their spot-kicks, while Al Jazira missed one, allowing Troost-Ekong and his teammates to celebrate a hard-fought success.

The triumph marks an impressive start to life at Al Ahli Doha for Troost-Ekong, who joined the club recently and has quickly settled into the squad. The trophy also adds to the Nigerian defender’s growing list of honours at club and international level.
