Trump Declares Iran Ceasefire ‘Over’ After Fresh Military Strikes

United States President Donald Trump has declared the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran effectively over following a fresh exchange of military attacks between US forces and Iran.

Speaking on Wednesday during a NATO summit in Ankara, Trump launched a scathing attack on Iran’s leadership, describing the country as “scum” and accusing its leaders of being dangerous and untrustworthy.

“I think it’s over. I don’t want to deal with them any more,” Trump said, insisting that he no longer sees value in negotiations with Tehran.

His remarks came after the United States carried out overnight strikes on Iranian targets, while Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced they had retaliated by targeting US military bases in the Gulf.

The renewed hostilities rattled global markets, with oil prices climbing by about five percent amid concerns over possible disruptions to energy supplies.

Despite his hardline stance, Trump said he would still consult with businessman-turned-diplomat Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, both of whom have been involved in contacts with Iranian officials. However, he maintained that any further diplomatic progress would depend entirely on Tehran.

The US president also accused Iran of failing to honour the terms of the June 17 ceasefire agreement, alleging that Iranian officials publicly denied commitments made during negotiations, particularly on the issue of nuclear weapons.

“Everyone agreed there should be no nuclear weapon. We make a deal, then they go outside and tell the press we never even discussed it. There’s something wrong with them,” Trump said.

The latest escalation has raised fresh concerns over stability in the Middle East, with tensions between the two countries threatening to undermine recent diplomatic efforts and heighten fears of a wider regional conflict.
