Tyla Responds to Debut Album’s Shift to ‘Pop’ Grammy Category

The Recording Academy has reportedly reclassified South African singer Tyla’s debut album, initially submitted for the R&B category, into the pop category for the upcoming Grammys.

Hollywood Reporters revealed that the R&B screening committee shifted the album from consideration for Best R&B Album to Best Pop Vocal Album.

If Tyla secures a nomination, she would become the first African artist to compete in this pop category.

Tyla’s self-titled album will be up against heavyweights like Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine, Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, and Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet.

Overjoyed by the news, the singer expressed her excitement on X, stating, “I make it all.”

Recall that earlier this year, Tyla made history by winning the first-ever Grammy for Best African Music Performance with her hit song “Water.”
