The United States Embassy in Abuja has issued a security advisory to its citizens ahead of the planned #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest scheduled for Monday, October 20, 2025, in parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement released on its official website on Friday, October 17, 2025, the Embassy warned that demonstrations are expected around Eagle Square and the Central Business District, with possible movement towards the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
It cautioned that the protest could cause major traffic disruptions and potentially escalate into confrontations, even if it begins peacefully.
U.S. citizens were advised to avoid protest routes, stay indoors where possible, and restrict movement within Abuja during the demonstration.
The Embassy also urged parents to keep children at home and advised domestic workers who commute from outside the city to suspend travel that day.

The advisory further encouraged residents to remain alert, monitor reliable news sources for updates, and ensure their communication devices are fully charged.
It reminded citizens that public gatherings in Nigeria can quickly become unpredictable.
The planned protest forms part of renewed agitation for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who remains in detention despite several court rulings granting him bail.
