UK Appoints Peter Vowles As New High Commissioner To Nigeria

The United Kingdom has announced the appointment of seasoned diplomat Peter Vowles as its new High Commissioner to Nigeria, succeeding Richard Montgomery.

The appointment was confirmed on Monday by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), which described Vowles as an experienced diplomat with a distinguished record in international relations and public service.

Before his new posting, Vowles served as the British Ambassador to Zimbabwe and held several senior positions within the FCDO, where he played key roles in shaping the UK’s foreign policy and diplomatic engagements.

His appointment comes as Nigeria and the United Kingdom continue to strengthen bilateral ties across key sectors, including trade, security, education, economic development and climate cooperation.

As High Commissioner, Vowles will serve as the principal representative of the British government and King Charles III in Nigeria. He will be responsible for overseeing diplomatic relations between both countries, promoting trade and investment opportunities, managing consular affairs and supporting cultural and educational partnerships.

Vowles is expected to assume his new role in the coming months as part of efforts to further enhance cooperation between London and Abuja.
