UK, Canada, Australia Grant Official Recognition to Palestine

The governments of the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia have all announced official recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was the first to declare the move, linking it directly to renewed efforts for peace in the Middle East.

“Today, to help restore the peace process and advance the two-state solution, the United Kingdom officially recognizes the State of Palestine,” Starmer stated in a message released on Sunday, the 21st of September, 2025.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney later echoed the same stance, posting on his official X account.

“Canada recognizes the State of Palestine, and we extend our support to efforts that can bring lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis,” Carney wrote.

Australia joined within hours, announcing that it too had extended formal recognition.

The three announcements come just before the United Nations General Assembly opens on Monday, with the coordinated step marking fresh momentum for Palestinians seeking international recognition and statehood.
