Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the deputy head of the U.S. embassy in Kyiv, John Ginkel, on Wednesday to express strong concern over Washington’s decision to temporarily suspend military aid.

The diplomatic action followed an announcement by the White House that key weapons shipments, previously committed by the former American administration, would be paused. The suspended supplies reportedly include Patriot air defense systems and artillery-critical tools for Ukraine’s defense amid intensifying Russian offensives.

In a statement following the meeting, Ukrainian officials warned that any interruption in international military support could embolden Russia and deepen the crisis.

“A delay in delivering vital military assistance directly threatens Ukraine’s defensive capabilities and encourages continued aggression by the Russian Federation,” the ministry said.

The Kremlin welcomed the development. Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists that reduced arms transfers to Ukraine could hasten the end of Russia’s ongoing military campaign.

“The fewer weapons sent to Ukraine, the sooner the conflict will be resolved,” he said.

Ukrainian military officials are growing increasingly concerned about the impact of the aid suspension. A senior defense source, speaking anonymously, warned that Ukraine’s current supply lines are heavily dependent on American support.

“While our European allies have stepped up, U.S. equipment remains essential to maintaining front-line stability,” the source said.

The timing of the pause could not be more precarious. Ukrainian forces are currently under heavy Russian pressure along several fronts, with recent reports indicating territorial setbacks and rising casualties.

Ukrainian leaders are appealing to the U.S. to reconsider its position, stressing that the delay could lead to further battlefield losses and the erosion of hard-won defensive positions. Kyiv continues to urge its international allies to sustain the flow of military support, arguing that global hesitation only plays into Moscow’s hands.
