Umahi Endorses Concrete Pavement Technology for Flood-Prone Areas

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has emphasized the adoption of continuous reinforcement concrete pavement technology as the optimal solution for select roads across Nigeria, particularly in flood-prone regions and areas with high water table levels.

Umahi made this assertion in a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The statement was issued during his inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of a 2.46-kilometre Special Intervention Project on the East-West Road in Delta State, handled by M/S Truetech Global Investment Services Limited.

Highlighting the benefits of concrete pavement, Umahi stressed that this technology ensures long-term durability and reliability, making roads more resistant to environmental challenges and heavy traffic flow.

Reaffirming President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to prioritizing critical road infrastructure, Umahi expressed satisfaction with the quality of the ongoing concrete road projects.

Concrete pavement is good for areas that experience double rainfall maxima. Roads built with concrete will last between 50 to 100 years, while asphaltic ones will fall within 10 years. Concrete is the solution to flood-density roads,” Umahi stated.

During his visit, the minister engaged with youth and community leaders in the area, who acknowledged the quality of work being carried out by the federal government.

Many, however, requested additional road projects to be extended to their communities.

Motorists and commuters also praised the administration for alleviating their struggles caused by previously deteriorated roads.

Ltd, and the 23.2-kilometre Reconstruction of Benin-Sapele-Warri Dual Carriageway under the Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme, handled by M/S. Skecc (Nig.) Ltd.

Umahi urged contractors to expedite work on the projects, emphasizing that President Tinubu is keen on their timely completion.

He also called for public understanding and cooperation as efforts to enhance Nigeria’s road network continue.
