Senator Victor Umeh has dismissed claims by Nwabueze Oli that he won the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) primary election, insisting that the figures being cited by the aspirant do not align with available party records.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Monday, Umeh challenged the credibility of Oli’s claims, arguing that the vote totals he cited were inconsistent with the number of registered party members in the affected area.
According to the senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, the aspirant’s assertions were not supported by verifiable election results.
“He claimed to have scored 6,000 votes in our local government, yet the registered number of NDC members in that local government is less than 3,500,” Umeh said.
The lawmaker questioned how such figures could be possible, maintaining that official records and results from the primary election were available for scrutiny.
“He has no idea what he is talking about, and results are available,” he added.

Umeh’s remarks come amid ongoing disputes surrounding the outcome of the NDC primary election, with disagreements emerging among party stakeholders over the conduct and results of the exercise.
The controversy reflects broader tensions that have followed the conclusion of primary elections in several political parties, as aspirants and their supporters continue to contest outcomes in different states and constituencies.
While Oli has maintained his position regarding the primary election, Umeh insisted that any claims concerning victory must be backed by official results and verifiable records.
The NDC has yet to issue a fresh statement addressing the latest exchange between the two political figures.
Political observers say the dispute highlights the growing challenges political parties face in managing internal contests and maintaining unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
