UNIMAID Teaching Hospital Names New Medical ICT Institute After Tinubu

The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) in Borno State has named its newly constructed Medical ICT Institute in honour of President Bola Tinubu.

The unveiling took place on Tuesday as part of events marking the 110th general meeting of Chief Medical Directors held in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. The occasion attracted prominent political figures and key stakeholders in Nigeria’s health sector.

Speaking at the event, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, praised the Federal Government for its support and contributions to the project. He described the institute as the first of its kind in the country, with the potential to significantly boost healthcare delivery and capacity-building among medical professionals.

Ahidjo noted that the new facility will serve as a hub for advancing medical knowledge through digital innovation, ultimately improving health outcomes across Nigeria.

He said, “The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Muhammad Pate, has demonstrated that so much can be achieved.

“We appreciate your focus and dedication. As of now, I can say we are getting whatever we ask from the Federal Government.

“Today, we are commissioning the first medical ICT centre in Nigeria, named after President Tinubu as a mark of appreciation.”

He, however, added that about eight projects which span across health facilities, roads, and infrastructures that were inaugurated are named after stakeholders who have contributed significantly to the growth of the hospital.

Pate, on his part, noted that the health sector is one of the key cardinal point of the Tinubu-led administration.

“Today, in each of the federal health centres, you will find one or two federal projects completed or ongoing.”

He commended the league of the CMDs for their leadership across various hospitals in the country, describing it as pivotal for healthcare service delivery

“Transformation is taking up and I must say, you the Chief Medical Directors are the ones piloting the change.

“It is a great pleasure to join you today. It is fitting that the teaching hospital decided to match it with several important projects commissioning including the ICT centre named after President Tinubu.

“So I want to thank the hospital state government and Borno people for the warm reception” he said

The event was attended by the Borno state governor, Babagana Zulum, his deputy, Usman Kadafur, traditional rulers, members of the state and national assemblies and key government leaders both local and national levels.
