Tragedy has struck the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, following the assassination of the institution’s Registrar, Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
The respected administrator, who only assumed duty as UNIMED’s third substantive Registrar on January 6, 2025, was found dead in his Ondo town residence in the early hours of Thursday, July 17, 2025. His sudden death has plunged the university community and the town into mourning.
Confirming the grim development, a source within the institution said, “He was discovered lifeless in his home on Thursday morning. We hope the police will uncover what really happened.”
UNIMED’s Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, described the news as both shocking and painful. In an official statement, he said:
“The devastating news has left the entire university community in mourning. He was present at work on Monday, July 14. The circumstances of his death remain unclear at this point.”
The university paid tribute to Adeniran’s short but impactful tenure, lauding his dedication and integrity.
“He served with distinction and dedication until his untimely death. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”

Similarly, the Head of Human Resources, Mr. M.A. Akinkuade, expressed heartfelt condolences, describing the deceased as “a loyal and diligent official whose impact on the university’s development will not be forgotten.”
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing and launched an investigation.
Speaking to journalists, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the case was reported at the Fanibi Police Division.
“From initial findings, two men reportedly emerged from a nearby bush and forced an unknown substance into another individual’s mouth,” Ayanlade stated, though he did not confirm if this incident was directly tied to Adeniran’s death.
He said the precise location and full circumstances surrounding the murder are still under investigation, and promised that the command would explore all leads to apprehend the perpetrators.
The police have appealed to the public for any useful information that could aid their ongoing investigations.
