United Nigeria Airlines Apologises to Bolaji Ogunmola After Flight Delay

United Nigeria Airlines has apologised to Nollywood actress Bolaji Ogunmola after repeated delays and the eventual cancellation of her flight from Ekiti to Lagos caused significant professional and financial setbacks.

Ogunmola’s flight, UN0623, was scheduled to depart at 8 a.m. on January 7, 2026, but was first postponed to 9:30 a.m., then 12 p.m., and later 5:30 p.m., before being cancelled.

She said the repeated postponements left her stranded for more than 24 hours, disrupting her work on a film project valued between ₦15 million and ₦20 million.

She publicly called out the airline on Thursday, January 8, highlighting the repeated delays .

In response, the airline’s public relations officer, Chibuke Uloka, explained that the cancellation was due to “unscheduled aircraft maintenance” and stated that passengers were notified via email and text messages.

Flight UN0623 was reintroduced on January 8 at 8 a.m., despite the Ekiti–Lagos route not being scheduled for that day.

The airline’s statement read in part:

“United Nigeria Airlines acknowledges the concerns raised by Ms. Bolaji Ogunmola in a now viral video regarding the recent disruption to her travel plans. We offer our sincerest apologies for the inconveniences to her and all affected passengers… Communications regarding the disruption were promptly sent to all affected passengers via email and text messages… We remain steadfast in our commitment to the highest standards of safety, operational excellence, and exceptional customer service.”

The disruption has reignited discussions on the reliability of domestic flights, especially on regional routes like Ekiti–Lagos.

Aviation experts note that while the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport has improved regional connectivity, limited fleet availability and unscheduled maintenance continue to challenge operational consistency.

Passenger advocacy groups have urged airlines to strengthen communication, comply with consumer protection regulations, and ensure timely assistance for disrupted travellers.
