Kenyan authorities apprehended a man suspected of murdering multiple women over the past two years.
The man, 33-year-old Jomaisi Khalisia, reportedly confessed to killing 42 women, including his wife.
The remains of the victims, believed to be between 18 and 30 years old, were discovered Friday at a dump site in Nairobi. Police secured the area while investigating the decomposed bodies.
According to BBC reports, Khalisia was arrested early Monday at a bar. His capture stemmed from forensic examination of a mobile phone linked to one of the victims.
Police allege Khalisia led them to his nearby residence, where they found a machete believed to be the murder weapon and several sacks resembling those used to dispose of the bodies.
Other items recovered include phones, a laptop, identification cards, and women’s clothing.
Authorities are still questioning Khalisia to determine his motive and plan to arraign him on Tuesday. They’re urging families of missing women to come forward if they suspect their loved one might be a victim.
Police believe they’re dealing with a dangerous serial killer and have arrested a second individual found with another victim’s phone. This person is considered a potential accomplice.
