Nigeria’s trade balance recorded a strong boost in the second quarter of 2025, with a surplus of ₦7.5 trillion, new figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) show.
The latest Foreign Trade in Goods Statistics Report, published by the NBS on Friday, September 12, revealed that the surplus represented a 52 percent rise compared to the ₦5.17 trillion surplus recorded in the first quarter of the year.
According to the data, total trade for the period hit ₦38.03 trillion, reflecting a 5.5 percent increase from the ₦36.02 trillion posted in Q1.

Imports dipped slightly to ₦15.28 trillion, a 0.9 percent decline from the ₦15.42 trillion reported in the previous quarter.
On the other hand, exports grew by 10.49 percent to ₦22.75 trillion, up from ₦20.59 trillion in Q1.
The NBS further noted that crude oil exports remained the backbone of trade performance, contributing ₦12.95 trillion or 62.89 percent of the total. Non-crude oil exports were valued at ₦10.78 trillion during the quarter.
