The disclosure was made on Monday, the 16th of February 2026, in a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba.

According to him, the deployment followed an official request from the Federal Government of Nigeria and forms part of a structured programme focused on capacity building, technical collaboration, and intelligence exchange.

Clarifying the nature of their mission, he stressed that “the US personnel are technical specialists serving strictly in an advisory and training capacity. They are not combat forces.”
