Utomi Vows To Slash Nigeria’s Bloated Cost Of Governance

Renowned political economist, Professor Pat Utomi, has stated that he would significantly reduce the cost of governance if given the opportunity to lead Nigeria as president.

Utomi made the remarks while appearing on Sunday Politics, a political affairs programme aired on Channels Television, where he shared his views on the country’s current situation.

Speaking on the challenges confronting Nigerians, he argued that it was unreasonable for government spending to continue rising while citizens struggled with economic hardship.

According to Utomi, decisive steps must be taken to cut down excessive governance costs and refocus economic policy towards boosting productivity.

“I will still dramatically slice the cost of governing in Nigeria; it is way too high. I would use industry policy to stimulate production. We’re not doing enough to stimulate production.

“I’m not going to remove tax reforms. They are important. We need them, but I’m going to make sure that they are not revenues for people to spend. We need to look at constitutional reforms that limit how you spend.

“Those kinds of money you raise, We need a balanced budget. All of those are the issues we need to bring into consideration,” he said.
