In a bold move, the controversial activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) has announced his support for the newly banned protest song Tell Your Papa by Eedris Abdulkareem, pledging to finance the song’s re-recorded video.
The Nigerian government, through the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), recently banned the track, calling it offensive and inappropriate.
Ironically, the ban has propelled the song into the spotlight, attracting attention that it had previously lacked.
The government’s attempt to suppress it only ignited further conversation around the song’s message.
In his response, VeryDarkMan sharply criticized the government for silencing the truth presented in the song, which calls attention to Nigeria’s mounting issues of hardship and insecurity.
VeryDarkMan, in a fiery video posted to his social media, condemned the government’s actions, stating: “I went to Eedris Abdulkareem’s page and saw the message NBC sent to him banning his song Tell Your Papa, where he urges Seyi Tinubu to tell his father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that the country is suffering and people are dying. The government doesn’t want to hear that truth on air because they know it’s accurate. Is there no hardship in the country? Are people not dying from insecurity?”
He then vowed to take the message to a wider audience, declaring the government’s attempt to control media discourse ineffective.
“The truth will still be heard. Radio and TV may be limited, but we’re taking this to social media where the real power lies.”

In his bold declaration, VeryDarkMan promised to fund a new version of the video, featuring himself, and even planning to find a lookalike for Tinubu, as they can’t get the president himself to appear.
The new video, Tell Your Papa 2, will address not only the current issues but also shine a light on other pressing national problems.
“This ban is a clear indication that those in power are aware of the issues but choose not to act. When you speak out, they try to control the media so your voice doesn’t rise beyond their control. Well, we’re taking it to the people,” he concluded.
