Violent clash: Akeredolu suspends NURTW activities in Ondo indefinitely

Activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Ondo State chapter, have been suspended indefinitely by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The governor gave the order for the suspension of NURTW activities in the state in response to the Tuesday violent clash between actions of the union.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale, announced the governor’s decision in a statement on Tuesday.

He said that Akeredolu also ordered the NURTW members to immediately vacate all motor parks across the state.

The governor blamed the clash on unruly and uncultured behaviour of the union leadership.

Meanwhile, the state government said that activities of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria will still go on.

According to the state government, RTEAN is not affected by the indefinite suspension because the union has been comporting its activities in a peaceful manner.

It was alleged that one person was killed and many others injured as a result of the Tuesday attack involving NURTW factions in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
