The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has firmly refuted viral reports alleging that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates has been cancelled.
In an official statement released via the Council’s verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, WAEC labeled the claims as “false and mischievous”, urging the public to dismiss them entirely.
“The said examination has not been cancelled,” the Council clarified.
“Marking of scripts has just concluded and results will be released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025.”
The fabricated message circulating online claimed that the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with WAEC, had voided all 2025 WASSCE papers due to widespread examination malpractice, coordinated leakage of question papers, and unauthorized sharing of digital materials. WAEC categorically denied these assertions.
“The Council is certain that the false claim is being peddled by mischief-makers who are bent on bringing the Council to disrepute and causing confusion and panic among candidates who sat the examination,” the statement read.

The examination body emphasized that it had not issued any such cancellation notice and that all its official communications are made solely through its Public Affairs Department and verified media channels.
WAEC also advised parents, students, and stakeholders to remain calm and disregard unofficial sources, warning that the viral report was intended to undermine trust in the Council and disrupt the post-examination process.
The Council’s clarification comes amid growing concern among students who had just concluded their WASSCE papers and were awaiting results.
