WAEC denies withholding Kano candidates’ result over indebtedness

West African Examinations Council has debunked the news that it withheld results of candidates from Kano State because of indebtedness.

An online report had claimed that WAEC withheld results of candidates because the state was indebted to the examination body.

However, in a statement signed by the acting Head, Public Affairs, WAEC, Mr Demianus Ojijeogu said, “The attention of the West African Examinations Council, Nigeria has been drawn to a publication in online media, alleging that the results of candidates from Kano State were being withheld as a result of the indebtedness of the Kano State Government to the West African Examinations Council.

“There is no iota of truth in this allegation, whatsoever. For the avoidance of doubt, the Council wishes to state that the results of candidates of Kano State origin were released alongside those of other candidates on Monday, November 2, 2020. The Kano State Government is not in any way indebted to the Council. The results of candidates from the state were never, and are not, being withheld as alleged.

“WAEC, therefore, urges the Kano State Government, schools and candidates, parents, and other stakeholders in Kano State to please, ignore the publication.

“We want to also urge the media to always balance their stories and cross-check their facts before publishing them.”
