The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has reminded all the state chapters of the Association to conduct their elections.

Following an earlier correspondence of December 16, 2020 on the subject matter, the National Secretariat reminded all the affected chapters that were yet to conduct elections that the directive that they should conduct the elections on or before the March 31st 2021 subsists.

Procedurally, the executive of every chapter in consultation with the congress and the National Secretariat do conduct periodic elections not later than three months after the expiration of its tenure.

“The National Secretariat is happy that so far some chapters like; Adamawa, Borno, Ekiti, Gombe, Taraba, Nasarawa, Plateau, Benue and Niger have successfully conducted their elections within the given time frame.

“We also urge those chapters like; Ebonyi and Sokoto that have kick started the process to expedite action to conduct the elections within the given time frame.

“However, we want to remind chapters like; Edo, Zamfara, Enugu, Lagos, Cross River, Ogun, Osun and Katsina to also work towards conducting their elections as stipulated,” the statement read.

In line with relevant sections of the SWAN Statute, the National Secretariat threatened that they will move to set up Caretaker Committees in the affected chapters after the given deadline.
