‘We Don’t Want Fubara’, Women Protesters Back Rivers Emergency Rule

A coalition of women groups on Monday, April 14, marched through Port Harcourt in support of the ongoing emergency rule in Rivers State, marking a new twist in the state’s deepening political crisis.

Dressed in white and chanting slogans, the protesters moved from Garrison Flyover to the Isaac Boro Park, holding placards with messages like “State of Emergency is Constitutional” and “We Don’t Want Fubara.”

Aguma and the demonstrators expressed strong backing for Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the state’s administrator following the March 18 suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the State House of Assembly.

They urged Ibas to continue what they described as his “good work” in the state.

Monday’s march follows a similar protest last week by a separate group of women who demonstrated in support of the suspended governor.
