We have no intention to interfere with Emefiele’s probe – Ohanaeze Ndigbo

President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, on Sunday, dissociated the apex Igbo socio-political group from a publication, which described as ethnic cleansing, the suspension of Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele.

According to Iwuanyanwu, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has no intention whatsoever to interfere with disciplinary actions by government against erring officials.

Recently, one Mazi Chima Uzor, claiming to be the Director of National interest Matters in Ohanaeze Ndigbo, had issued a statement condemning Emefiele’s suspension and arrest.

But Iwuanyanwu in a statement he personally signed, on Sunday, stated that Uzor’s statement was false in its entirety and never emanated from Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide under him.

He said the said Mazi Chima Uzor was an impersonator and unknown to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, adding that there is no office such as National Interest Matters in Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

The President General added, ”Ohanaeze also has no intension whatsoever to interfere with the investigations by the DSS or other security agencies of the country.

“Individuals have a right to go to court and when the court of law proves the individual innocent and Ohanaeze is convinced that the individual is innocent, Ohanaeze will take every step necessary to assist the individual.

“In the other hand, if the individual is guilty, the Ohanaeze will be unable to assist”.

Iwuanyanwu, who described Uzor’s case as a matter of criminal impersonation, declared, “By this disclaimer, we are requesting the security agents to treat this matter as a very serious crime case.

“We wish finally to alert the public on many fraudsters who are tarnishing the good name and reputation of Ohanaeze Ndigbo by making false publications in the name of Ohanaeze Ndigbo for selfish interests.

“We hope with the help of security agents, they will soon be flushed out”.
