We Wish You Well — Bayelsa PDP Tells Diri

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has formally accepted the resignation of Governor Douye Diri from the party.

At an emergency meeting held on Thursday in Yenagoa, the state capital, the Bayelsa State PDP Chairman, Hon. Solomon Agwanana, confirmed that the party received the governor’s resignation letter, which was addressed to the Kolokuma/Opokuma Ward 6 Chairman and copied to the State Working Committee (SWC).

Hon. Agwanana, who presided over the meeting, commended Governor Diri for his exemplary leadership, steadfast loyalty, and the cordial relationship he maintained with party stakeholders and members throughout his years in the PDP.

While acknowledging the governor’s decision, the party reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the ideals, goals, and vision of the PDP, assuring members across the state that its structures remain intact, united, and resolute.

“We wish His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, well in his future political journey. The Bayelsa PDP remains a strong and united family, committed to the continued growth and progress of our dear state,” the party stated in its resolution.

The meeting had in attendance top members of the State Working Committee, including Hon. Ben George Odon (Deputy Chairman), Hon. Gesiye Isowo (Secretary), Elder Luke Demeoru (Treasurer), Chief Nathan Wisdom (Vice Chairman, Central), Hon. Indutimi Opurupelebo (Organizing Secretary), Hon. Ebiye Agu Ogoli (Publicity Secretary), and Hon. Christie Ebbeli (Woman Leader).

Others present were Barr. Christopher Kainga (Legal Adviser), Barr. Andi Newman Obed (Vice Chairman, East), Hon. Tobi Ebikidoumene (Vice Chairman, West), Chief Amalala Atua Godwin (Financial Secretary), Hon. Oyisor Didi (Youth Leader), and Elder Akwakwa B. Akwakwa (Auditor).

Governor Diri had on Wednesday, during an expanded State Executive Council meeting, announced his resignation from the PDP alongside the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and sixteen other lawmakers.

The governor who did not disclose his next political party, said his resignation from the PDP was for “obvious reasons”.
