Why I Ditched My Trademark Pink Style — DJ Cuppy

Nigerian DJ and billionaire heiress, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has revealed why she is gradually moving away from pink, the signature colour that defined her public image for several years.

The entertainer explained that her evolving fashion choices reflect personal growth, adding that she does not want her identity limited to a single colour.

Cuppy made this known during an interview with GQ Poland, a video excerpt of which she shared on X on Friday.

Responding to questions about her departure from her trademark pink appearance, the DJ said the colour still represents her personality but noted that she could now communicate the same qualities through different shades.

I was known for the colour pink and it was my identity for so many years, and a lot of people are asking what happened to the pink.

“I want people to understand that actually growth is something that will always come, and I don’t think I should be boxed into a colour.

Pink for me meant power, vibrancy, expression, unapologeticness, positionality, and that’s still me, but I’m able to express it through other colours as well,” she said.

Reflecting on her journey in the entertainment industry, Cuppy also connected her former style to her experience as a woman building a career in a male-dominated profession.

She recalled adopting pink when she entered the industry about 17 years ago, explaining that the colour allowed her to embrace her femininity while establishing her place in the sector.

“When I think about my style, I think about a woman in a male-dominated industry.

“Maybe also when I first started 17 years ago, a young girl that was using pink to represent her femininity and stay in the room,” she said.

According to the DJ, her years of experience have given her the confidence to express her femininity without depending on a particular colour.

“Now that I’ve been through a lot of doors and kicked down some windows, I feel like I can represent my femininity through any colour.

“So my style I would say is vibrant, grounded and ethnical,” she added.
